April 26th each year has grown in popularity as the World Intellectual Property Day in which the world celebrates all the small time innovators and artists who through hard work and creativity come up with revolutionary ideas ranging from just making music and movies to solutions to world problems. On such a day in 2008, Prof. Kamil Idris who by then was the Director General at WIPO retaliated on the importance of protecting intellectual property as with such protection there is more motivation for creators to keep creating without fear of loss of their property. Further, Prof. Kamil Idris highlights on how far innovation and creation have come a long way. The significant steps we have made as a species in every sector must be upheld, and that will require a collective effort among all stakeholders to achieve even better. Prof. Kamil Idris further went on to point out the link between the protection of creative ideas by patents and copyrights to the significant world problems like global warming. He ends his message for the celebrations that year by paying tribute to all creators and innovators out there who continually try to find solutions by critical thinking and make the world a better place.
