Luxury Tiny Homes Arriving in Wichita Soon

The “tiny home” is the latest trend in real estate and the city of Wichita is about to take the plunge into this market. The tiny home industry is booming thanks to the popularity of people wanting to downsize and go with a more minimalist lifestyle. Entrepreneurs Abby Nelson and Brady Sherman and are ready to make the tiny home dream a reality for many Wichitans. The two are founders of MicroMansions, a startup company with the goal of building more than 120 tiny homes in East Wichita later this year.

For the last 18 months, Nelson and Sherman have been working on their business plan, securing financial backing, designing the layouts, and hiring builders for their project. The partners have also met with city planners to discuss zoning issues and regulations and have also purchased the plot of land needed to build the homes. These high-end energy-efficient homes are aimed at first-time home buyers, empty nesters, and those people wanting flexibility in their lives and the ability to pick up and travel often.

The layouts of these homes range from 400 – 576 square feet and will sit on a 0.1-acre lot. Each home will feature a full kitchen, a bathroom with walk-in shower, and a washer and dryer unit. Some of the homes will even include a two-car garage and balcony. All homes will have 8-foot ceilings and most will be vaulted to convey a more spacious feeling. The homes are expected to range in prices from $75,000-100,000 and will be able to be reserved for only $1,000 down. The first model home in the development is expected to be complete by June and potential buyers will then have the opportunity to walk through the home to determine if the tiny home lifestyle fits their tastes.
