Lawrence Bender Teams up with Netflix for Seven Seconds.

Lawrence Bender is now a film producer, but this wasn’t always his plan. He attended the University of Maine in order to become a civil engineer and follow in his grandfather’s footsteps. This decision was ultimately in favor of his own career, his movies have received 29 total Academy Award nominations – three of which were for Best Picture.

Bender was born in The Bronx, moving to New Jersey at a young age.

Lawrence Bender didn’t start his career in film as a producer. His first job in the industry was with Tales from the Darkside, working as a grip. A few years later, Intruder, Lawrence Bender’s first feature film was released. This was in 1989, and this year also saw the release of Bender’s second film: Tale of Two Sister.

These two films had nothing on the success of Lawrence Bender’s third film. Reservoir Dogs was released in 1992, and it marked Quentin Tarantino’s career as a director. This also began Bender’s long professional relationship with Tarantino. The two created a number of films together afterwards. They worked together on Pulp Fiction, From Dusk till Dawn, Jsckie Brown, and Kill Bill. The most recent collaboration between the two was Inglourious Basterds.

In addition to Bender’s 29 Academy Award nominations, he has been honored for his roles in social, environmental, and humanitarian causes. The UCLA Institute of the Environment and Sustainability awarded him the Environmental Excellence Award; the ACLU gave him the Torch of Liberty Award.

Lawrence Bender’s most recent contribution to the entertainment industry came in the form of a Netflix Original Series. Seven Seconds follows the events in a town recently plagued by a tragedy. A police officer runs over a young black man, and the police force attempt to cover up the accident. An innocent man is charged with the crime, racial tensions grow in the community, and the police officer struggles with his moral code during the cover up.
